Section 48 Report - December 2025
We are delighted to share the outcomes of our recent Section 48 inspection, which recognised St George’s Catholic Primary School as Outstanding in Catholic Life and Mission, with an overall judgement of Good. This report is a wonderful affirmation of the strong sense of faith, belonging and community that underpins daily life at our school.
Inspectors highlighted the way our pupils live out the school mission with confidence and pride, describing them as “living ambassadors” who demonstrate moral responsibility, respect for others and a deep sense of belonging. Particularly moving was the recognition of pupils’ own words — that they feel they “have the right to be themselves” — reflecting a culture where every child is valued, supported and encouraged to flourish. The report also praised the dedication of staff, strong leadership and governance, and the inclusive, welcoming environment that ensures all pupils, including those with additional needs, can thrive.
We are immensely proud of our whole school community — pupils, staff, families, parish and governors — whose commitment and partnership make St George’s such a special place. This report encourages us to continue building on our strengths as we move forward together, guided by our mission and faith.
OFSTED Monitoring Report - February 2025
St George’s Catholic Primary School was visited by Ofsted in February 2025 for a monitoring inspection. This type of inspection focuses on the progress the school has made since its last full inspection and does not award grades.
Inspectors recognised that school leaders have made important improvements, particularly since the appointment of a new headteacher in September 2024 and a new assistant headteacher in January 2025. Leaders and governors now share a clear and ambitious vision for the school and have prioritised the right areas for development.
The inspection found that pupils now follow a broader and more ambitious curriculum. In most subjects, the school has carefully planned what pupils should learn and in what order, helping them to build new knowledge on what they already know. Improvements were noted in subjects such as science and history, with further work planned to strengthen curriculum detail in all foundation subjects and in Reception.
Reading was identified as a strength. Pupils have positive attitudes towards reading, and the school has strengthened its phonics programme. Staff now identify gaps in pupils’ reading knowledge more accurately and provide targeted support to help children read fluently and confidently.
Inspectors also highlighted improvements in staff training, which are raising teachers’ expectations and strengthening teaching in writing and mathematics. While some changes are still in their early stages, the school has begun to put systems in place to check the impact of these improvements on pupils’ learning.
The school’s commitment to supporting pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) was recognised. Most needs are identified accurately, and work is underway to adapt the curriculum more effectively so that all pupils can succeed. Leaders are continuing to ensure that these adaptations are applied consistently across the school.
Overall, the inspection confirmed that St George’s Catholic Primary School is moving in the right direction. Leaders, governors and staff are working together with determination, supported by external partners, to continue improving the quality of education for all pupils.
