St George’s Catholic Primary School – Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)
St George’s is an inclusive school, and we aim to ensure that every child is given the opportunity to achieve their full potential, regardless of their individual needs. The school adheres to the Special Educational Needs and Disability Code of Practice (2014), which relates to Part 3 of the Children and Families Act 2014, and also to the Equality Act 2010.
Some children may face barriers to learning that mean they have Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities (SEND), and they may require specific support from the school. At St George’s, we recognise and respond to these needs, making provision to support individuals or groups of children so they can participate fully in both social and academic activities. This ensures that they are able to succeed and flourish in their personal lives, within the wider community, and into adulthood.
We are committed to offering a range of support for pupils with:
· Communication and interaction difficulties
· Cognition and learning difficulties
· Social, emotional and mental health needs
· Sensory and/or physical needs
If you have concerns about your child, the first point of contact should be the class teacher. The next step involves the Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCO). A graduated response will be taken, which may include assessments by the class teacher or SENCO and, if necessary, involvement from external agencies. Review meetings with parents are held at least three times a year.
We are committed to providing a full curriculum to as wide a range of pupils as possible, including those with SEND. All pupils are fully integrated and supported within the school environment.
For further details, please refer to our SEN Policy and SEN Information Report (at the bottom of the page).
SEN Information Report
In line with the SEND Code of Practice (2015), schools are required to publish information on their website regarding the implementation of their SEND policy. This report aims to provide information about the SEND provision in place at St George’s Catholic Primary School.
